How to have a short engagement
You’re engaged! You’ve decided to toss the traditional one-year engagement out the window. I dig it! Here are a few pieces of advice I’ve picked up over the years for a successful short engagement.
What I’d change about my own wedding…
This first tip is something I wish I had followed, even with a year engagement. Hire a planner, a planner can take the day to day stress off of you and your fiancé. A planner is there to guide you on what is next, vendors and they knock out the tasks so you don’t stress. They keep you on track to have your wedding planned properly, not missing a single detail. Planners are also there the day of your wedding, handling everything and anything that pops up! Bad weather changing your location? They’re on it. Wardrobe issue? They got it. You’ll see them and their team hustling around making sure everything kicks off smoothly as possible!
How to get what you want…
Be flexible! Be flexible with your date, and location. However if you a location you’re set on, be flexible with your date and Vise Versa. I am a huge lover of weekday weddings. They’re popular for destination weddings, however, in recent years, couples love weekday weddings. Why? They’re easy on your budget, your favorite vendors are likely available, and there’s no stress about who else is getting married on the same day.
The right list to make…
The third piece of advice for a short engagement, keep it simple. Make a list of your must-have and prioritize them. This doesn’t mean you won’t get the wedding of your dreams, this simply helps you and your planner know what’s most important and where to start. I always suggest this order of vendor priority: Planner > Venue > Photographer > Videographer > Caterer > Florist > HMUA > DJ This isn’t a rule just a suggestion!
Order your Save The Dates ASAP. As soon as you choose your Photographer, which should be right after you’ve secured a date & venue, book your engagement portraits. Getting your Save the Date out as early as possible will help ensure your guests will be able to attend on shorter notice.
What every couple should do…
Lastly, it’s your engagement, SOAK IT UP! Plan date nights to celebrate planning, enjoy an engagement party, and bridal shower. Just because you’re planning a wedding in a few months doesn’t mean you have to skip all the fun!
