What makes your marriage in Virginia legit?
A marriage license.
- Application forms are processed online at the Public Access Terminals in the waiting area of the courthouse. Located at 150 St Pauls Blvd, Norfolk, VA 23510
- You must bring with you:
- photo identification
- Social Security Number or Drivers License
No appointment is needed to obtain a marriage license.
how to get married in the Norfolk courthouse
Within 60 days of getting your marriage license say ‘I Do’ within the state lines of Virginia.
Pay $50 cash to the onsight Marriage Commissioner to perform your marriage at the courthouse.
The courthouse also provides Marriage Commissioners that perform ceremonies outside of the courthouse.
how to make it official
The officiant must return the license within 7 days of the ceremony to the Norfolk Circuit Court Clerk’s Office. Once the clerk’s office receives the license they will record it and make you two official!

Marriage License – $30
Courthouse Ceremony – $50 (cash)
Non-Courthouse Ceremony – $50 (estimate)
Official Copy of Marriage Certificate – $2.50

Parking can be tricky at the courthouse. Allow extra time to find parking. There are parking garages close by.

Good news! Photos are permitted in the Norfolk Courthouse during ceremonies! After you say ‘I Do’ we can take portraits right outside the courthouse or an alternate location.
