Jonathan contacted me about capturing his proposal to his girlfriend Kelly during their trip. We discussed a few options, he originally though of proposing during a morning hike. While I love a good hike and the epic views, as an engagement photographer I’ve learned that ladies don’t always love being surprise photographed when they’re a sweaty winded mess. RIGHT LADIES!??? So Jonathan had the idea of a beach picnic, including a guitarist and the perfect proposal.
I love proposals, don’t get me wrong when you read the next sentence. I felt like the paparazzi this time, I almost felt guilty about how stealthy I was being! My timing was so close that I was maybe 20 feet behind them as they walked to the beach. I ducked behind boats, sat casually in my beach chair (covering my giant zoom lens with a beach towel) pulling my camera up every time Kelly turned away from me.
The guitarist walked up to them during their picnic and started serenading them. Jonathan grabbed Kelly’s hand and got down on one knee. She was caught completely off guard. Tears, smiles and a relieved Jonathan danced as the music played. Oh and SHE SAID YES!!! We took a few moments to frolic in the water and soak up the perfect smiles they had on their faces.
